Marriage & Wedding Information

Brides pondering on the monumental task of finding the perfect venue for their weddings often feel overwhelmed. Just think back to the old days: your boyfriend proposed, you visited the local venues on offer, you made your choice, and “voilà,” case closed. Nowadays, with the advent of cheaper air travel, destination weddings have become all the rage. The only problem is that our future bride just multiplied the number of possible venues by, should we say, one million? All kidding aside, this decision will prove to be the most important one for the couple, so we caught up with Frank Damgaard, of Monte-Carlo Weddings, to find out why he recommends the South of France and lavish Principality of Monaco, for a fairy-tale destination wedding.

What’s so special about the South of France?
“The French Riviera, or Côte d’Azur, as they say in French, is known around the world for its incomparable beauty, historic venues, and romantic settings. It’s like living in a Grace Kelly movie: the charm, the elegance, and the glamour of yesteryear. Besides: who hasn’t dreamt of visiting France at least once in their lifetimes?  The food is unrivalled, the venues are magnificent, and all in all it makes for a magical experience for the couple, their families and their guests.”
Secondly, I would say that the weather is also a big plus. We boast 300 days of sun a year, which is certainly a far cry from my native Denmark, that is for sure! This also allows for a more pleasant experience for your guests too, who might be turning your wedding into a little mini-vacation. Not to mention the benefit of having great natural light for all those photographs you plan on taking. Just think:  there is a good reason all of those impressionist painters chose to work in the South of France!”

Tell us more about your company, Monte-Carlo Weddings.
“Monte-Carlo Weddings is a boutique company, targeting couples who are looking for a unique wedding experience. I guess I can best describe it by saying that we are a full-service wedding planning company, which is quite rare in this part of the world. Our clients expect the very best, and our goal is to not only meet their expectations, but to exceed them.”

What kind of venues can our readers expect to find on the French Riviera?
“Where do I start?” Firstly, the South of France is known for its natural beauty. Many of the outdoor settings I propose can be suitable for garden weddings, and which even permits some savings on the floral bills, since there are already so many flowers on the property.
Some of our couples choose one of the many private villas which are for rent. Luckily for me, many villa owners buy their properties as investments, so they do not necessarily live there all year-round. The benefit of a villa is that you get to create a whole “wedding headquarters” for yourselves, and end up saving on hotel bills, since many of them include accommodation for your family.
Renting a boat can also be a great option, depending on your budget. In fact, thanks to the recession quite a few good deals can be found out there. Who knows? Maybe this is a good time to get the deal of the century on a luxury yacht. Can’t you imagine yourself saying “I do” on deck, overlooking the bright blue Mediterranean waters, sipping champagne and surrounded by your friends and family?

How do you help couples find the perfect venue?
“Well, I think that one of our strong points is our ability to find one-of-a-kind venues which fit each individual couple perfectly. Part of my job as a wedding planner is to ensure that the venue will match what they are looking for. Often this means a tireless effort of canvassing a whole array of options, but in the end it is always worth it. In fact, more often than not, the couple will know when they visit the perfect venue – it is a kind of “gut feeling.” So what we do is just continue visiting venues, until they get that feeling!”
